When life gives you lemons

I am pretty darn pleased with myself right now for the following reasons:
  1. I had dinner out and used my own utensils instead of the restaurant's disposable chopsticks
  2. I took home the leftovers in my own baunan (food box)
  3. I ran out of deodorant, used a lemon as an alternative, and didn't get any funny looks from people today
Of course my parents were horrified I brought out my own utensils at a nice restaurant. I may have looked weird using metal chopsticks when everyone else's was wooden, and unashamedly shoving leftovers into my bag. At least I didn't smell bad!

It's a small victory for me every time I get to use of my baunan, since it normally consumes space in my bag, patiently waiting to see the light of day. Today, my baunan and I were over the moon since it finally served its purpose.

I recently ran out of deodorant. In the spirit of reduction, and in lieu of buying a new one, I decided to look for environmentally friendly options. Salt crystals or tawas was an option, but I couldn't find it without any packaging. I looked up baking soda recipes and was eager to get home and try this baking soda and VCO technique. I came across this "lemon recipe" and went with this instead.

I'd say the lemon was pretty successful on Day 1. Today wasn't a particularly hot and sweaty day, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how fresh I still smell despite having used nothing but three spritzes of lemon juice, after showering, of course. Tomorrow I'm going to the gym, so let's see how things hold up. Maybe fresh today, overripe tomorrow.

When life gives you lemons, make deodorant.

A word of caution: some skin types might not be able to handle the acidity of lemon juice. Some sites say that lemon juice on the skin + sun exposure = really bad sunburns. I'm still in beta mode with this lemon experiment, so I'll keep you posted on how things turn out. Stay tuned!

    1. Nope, I use it like a spray! With my next batch, I can try and use it as a roll-on though. It might make my deo last longer pa!
